The Conversation Room…FLA Speaks

The Power of Words: A session on the importance of effective communication.

On Saturday, we facilitated our 1st Staff Development Workday for the Freedom Leadership Academy (FLA). Our consultant and Professor Emeritus, Barabara McEachern facilitated a session on effect of words in communication. Reading from a book that contains a collection of short stories, essays, speeches, and sony lyrics, “The Professor” asked one simple question…”What do these words mean to you?”

Here’s what our staff (and parent) had to say:

Inspire. Allow me the space and time to reflect, re-evaluate, and strategize my intention into action.

Encourage “knowledge sleeps for no one”

Honor to live, love, happiness, courage, commitment, faithful

Choosing to be the author of my own biography

Life

Actions are pebbles that create a ripple of actions that go out into the world.

Reflect on Life and how actions have an outcome

Cause and Effect

To have a soul, identity, destiny, and power

Stoke the embers

Persistence, perseverance, a quest of soul searching of inward desire. A willingness to strive toward reaching beyond the status quo. Pressing toward new heights beyond what is typical or expected. An awakened of spirit and mind to go get what you want.

Live above the influence of others. The only person you can successfully be is yourself.

Wisdom and power, encouragement, knowledge, and education. Only you can make the difference in your own life. You can do anything. Have an optimistic outlook on life. It helps us to feel good. Inspiration and determination.

Energy can be used for good. Do what is in your heart.

Words are the fabric of nature that help me speak to the Lord. They are the connection we have with each other. The properties of matter that binds us. Words are the base of my universe that gets me to you.

In some way they give a sense of comfort to hear the strength of one person’s word and their soul being expressed through their own means…feelings that are expressed through words in literature, voices in a song, or by acting out that feeling.

Know yourself. Look inside of yourself for answers. Understand and be patient. Stay true to your goals; challenge and test your goals. Choose your words carefully.

Words cause action a paradigm shift. You must get the intended message.

    What F.L.A Is

We are the love tree on a wasteland of politics and crime,

As we grow, we willl bare fruit to the future to the land

And as the tree dies the fruit will bare seeds

And with those seed a pure clean forest will be born

It will rise up, up lifting and uniting everyone

To be one entity, one family, one spirit

      We Are F.L.A

      We are here for You

Poem 2 (The Way You Are)

The way you are is like an angel from above
    that god blessed to me
like a firefly in the night you guide from the shadows of my past.

cause the shadows of my past are what bind me
but it was the beauty of your eyes
that gave you the power to find me

and the kindness of your heart
    is what breaks me free,
    from my past

your voice sings me to sleep after a treacherous day
the calm warm heat of your hands heals my sore body
and soul, and your gental touch is what calms me.

with out you,i’m lost, a lingering soul
    a lost cause in society
    that needs a guiding light
    of an angel like you.

with out you I lost a part of me, my other half,
my love,as I am apart of you

you are my guiding light, a gift from above
    the love of my life,
    “YOU ARE MY ANGEL”.

We are a family, like a big tree. In order for us to grow we need sunlight and rain. And that sunlight and rain is the people that we help, that we encourage to strive for more and to want more in life. We encourage them do things like to go to college and make something of themselves…

Poem 3 (The Rose of my Life)

You are the thorn in my side
as I nurture you and give you love,
    you hurt me in return
as if what I give you isn’t enough.

    Yet with your beauty
the pain of your words subside away.
Like a trap, your smile brings me in,
    and when its to late,
your thorns hurt me down to my soul.

You think that my heart is some game
that you can play with my emotions ,
my soul that you just build up
so that you can just tare it down .

But i’m done with the pain
    the sorrow,and the agony,
    that you give to me.
And I will no longer be on that emotional roller coaster of love with you,
    but yet I learned;
(How can love be true if it isn’t mutual.)
    And Yet
(If life so fare why do roses have thorns.)
